An Ontology-Oriented Solution for Knowledge-Intensive Organisation - October 2002 - European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics

Knowing what you know is increasingly a real problem in many organisations whose core competence is knowledge. We believe that using state-of-the-art Web-based Knowledge Management (KM) technologies will not be sufficient in the immediate future, since the lack of formal semantics will make it extremely difficult to make the best use of the massive amount of stored data.

Approcci innovativi allo sviluppo di portali: Semantic Web, accessibilità e multimodalità - January 27th, 2005 - IDC: Content Management & Portal Conference 2005
Today, in a typical intranet scenario, there are a lot of different systems and a lot of integrations between these systems. This situation became easily uncontrollable unless we adopt knowledge intensive approaches such as the usage of ontologies to model the domain and metadata to annotate the resources.

Squiggle

Squiggle is a framework that supports the development of semantic search engines. Squiggle represents a common abstraction to build domain-specific search engines without requiring developers to spend time and effort to deal with low-level details.

The Need for Semantic Web Service in the eHealth - June 9th-10th, 2005, Innsbruck, Austria - W3C workshop on Frameworks for Semantics in Web Services
As a matter of fact, Web Services and XML present an efficient solution to reduce efforts and to quicken the process of creating interfaces for the communication between heterogeneous systems, employing the so called Services Oriented Architecture. However, a standard application protocol is much more than a syntax and a transport protocol for messages, it is a formal and largely shared agreement on the structure and semantics of messages as well as on the sequencing information for concrete interactions. With this semantic information only, systems can exchange information and the corresponding application logic of a large set of systems can be combined into a single distributed one.

The mediators centric approach to Automatic Web Service Discovery of Glue - December 12th, 2005, Amsterdam, Netherlands - First International Workshop on Mediation in Semantic Web Services: MEDIATE 2005
Automatizing Web Service Discovery is crucial for truly implementing a Service Oriented Architecture. In this paper we provide a mediator centric refinement of the conceptual model for WSMO discovery and the related architecture, as well as the prototypical implementation (named Glue) we are using in the projects COCOON and Nomadic Media.

SOIP-F

SOIP-F (Semantic Organization Information Portal Framework) is an extendable J2EE application framework to build portals that can be configured using a set of OWL ontologies. Our work tries to solve the navigation problem levering on semantics attached to resources to make navigation significant and effective to attain the users' tasks.

Multiple Vehicles for a Semantic Navigation Across Hyper-environments - May 29th - June 2nd, 2005, Heraklion, Greece - ESWC 2005
The enahncement of the semantic organizational information portal framework: how to lever on conceptual models (in the form of ontologies) to develop multiple-views support within a portal and solve the so-called navigation problem. In this article we use the travel metaphor for web navigation and we propose a solution for building "vehicles" to support users' mobility across resources.
