Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy



Dear User,
These are the terms and conditions of use for the mobile app Urbanopoly, brought to you by CEFRIEL and Politecnico di Milano in the context of the PlanetData project, co-funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework programme.


To access the application:

  - You must be aware of applicable law and regulations on using mobile devices. Urbanopoly cannot be held liable for the actions that You take while using the app, or as consequence of using the mobile app;

  - You must login with a Facebook account; if You don't have a Facebook account, You must first create one before being able to run the application. Once authenticated with Your Facebook account;

  - You will be requested to allow Urbanopoly to perform the following actions: accessing to basic information and posting content to the user's stream1 .


Your Facebook name will be used to identify You in the game and will be displayed to other users in the leaderboard.

The information You provide to Urbanopoly will be made public and could be reconducted to the user that provided it.


If You register:


You agree

  - NOT to use a name of another person or entity with the intent to impersonate them, and You agree NOT to use a name that is offensive, vulgar, obscene or unlawful.

  - NOT to use the account of another person or entity without the proper authorization.

  - NOT to submit knowingly false information about urban venues to Urbanopoly.

  - NOT to insert offensive, vulgar, obscene or unlawful information and photos.

Urbanopoly reserves the right to cancel an account found in violation of the above terms.


You acknowledge that

  - all data submitted and accessed by You using Urbanopoly is at Your own risk and You will be solely responsible and liable for any damage or loss to You or any other party resulting therefrom.

  - the data displayed in the game come from OpenStreetMap (under the ODbL license), from Regione Lombardia (under the IODL 2.0 license) or are provided by other Urbanopoly users.

  - all data submitted to Urbanopoly is the sole responsibility of the person who originated such submission. Urbanopoly cannot guarantee the authenticity of any data provided by OpenStreetMap, by its users or by Regione Lombardia.

  - all data provided to Urbanopoly by You will be made available as open linked data under the same open data license that applies to OpenStreetMap, i.e. the Open Data Commons Open Database License (also indicated as "ODbL").


You shall not (directly or indirectly):

  - take any action that imposes or may impose (as determined by Urbanopoly in its sole discretion) an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on its infrastructure;

  - interfere or attempt to interfere with the proper working of the application;

  - bypass any measures Urbanopoly may use to prevent or restrict access to the Service;

  - run any form of auto-responder or "spam" on the application.


The treatment of Your personal data information will take place respecting Your fundamental rights and freedom, Your dignity, especially related to privacy, fairness, lawfulness and the right to protect Your personal identity. According to the Italian law n.196/2003 article 13, as person directly interested in the treatment of Your own data, we invite You to acknowledge the following information, regarding ways and purpose of the treatment:


1. Owner of the treatment: the owner of the personal data treatment is CEFRIEL, via Renato Fucini 2, 20133 Milano - Italy.


2. Purpose of the treatment: the common personal data You have given us, will be used by CEFRIEL with the following purposes:

  a) Recording of the sent information from Your mobile device, including, but not limited to, Your location and the date and time of the request;

  b) In case of Your requests of information regarding the application: recording of such data with the purpose to process and satisfy Your requests and improve our services;

  c) As an authenticated user:

    i. User recognition with the purpose of providing services; for this purpose, You will be asked to authenticate with a valid Facebook account;

    ii. Analysis of the interaction with the application to improve and personalize the functionalities offered; for this purpose, Your actions will be traced and will lead back to You using Your Facebook account;

    iii. Recording and re-publishing as open linked data of the information You will provide during the gameplay related to Urbanopoly venues, according to the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 licence, as stated above.


3. Consent to the treatment: conferring Your Facebook account during authentication to the application is mandatory. The absence of consent will not allow CEFRIEL to fulfill the finalities above mentioned (art. 2 letter d). Anyone who intends to authenticate guaranties to be of age as stated in the jurisdiction of their State and insures that the personal data given is truthful, correct and updated, undertaking any responsibility regarding the correctness, truthfulness of the information given.


4. Conditions and duration of the treatment: CEFRIEL has adopted organizational measures in order to protect Your personal data from unauthorized access, use and diffusion. Your personal data will be treated according to this document as long as the application will be available.


5. Communication of personal data to third parties: Your Facebook name will be made available in the following occasions: (i) displayed in the game leaderboard within the application, (ii) associated to the venues that You "own" in the game within the application, (iii) associated to the information You will enter in the application during the gameplay within the resulting dataset released as linked open data. Data belonging to statistics and/or aggregations of the data collected could be communicated to the members of the European Commission and to the auditors called for to audit and evaluate PlanetData project.


6. Rights of the interested: at any moment it will be possible to exercise Your rights according to the law in D.Lgs.196/2003 art.7, of which we present the complete text in note2.
In any case an email to: urbanopoly@cefriel.it or a letter to CEFRIEL, via Renato Fucini 2, 20133 Milano, indicating reference to the Urbanopoly application and mentioning the right to be exercised is sufficient.

2 Art. 7 – Right to access personal data and other rights

  1. The interested has the right to obtain confirmation or the existence or not of personal data that interest him/her, even if non registered yet, and their communication in a readable manner.

  2. The interested has the right to obtain the indication of:

    a) Origin of the personal data;

    b) Purposes and conditions of the treatment;

    c) The process applied in case the treatment is made by using electronic tools;

    d) The information on the owner of the data, the people responsible and the designated reference person according to art. 5, comma 2;

    e) The subjects and categories of subjects to whom the personal data could be communicated or who could acknowledge them being the designated representative in the State’s territory, people responsible or in charge.

  3. The interested has the right to receive:

    a) Updating, modification and, if interested, data integration;

    b) Cancellation, transformation of data in anonymous form or the block of data treated against the law, including the ones which do not need to be maintained for the purposes for which the data were collected or subsequently treated;

    c) The declaration that the operations mentioned in letters a) and b), even in their content, have been taken to the acquaintance of who was informed, exception made if such action is made impossible or requires and effort out of proportion in relation to the right protected.

  4. The interested has the right to oppose completely or partially:

    a) For legitimate reasons to the treatment of his/her personal data, even if consistent with the purpose of the collection;

    b) To the treatment of his/her personal data with the purpose of sending advertising and sales material or for market researches or commercial communications.
